We are looking for women with family members and loved ones behind bars to join our Summer Essie Sister Circle Cohorts. If you or someone you know might like to join a loving and powerful community of women, nominate yourself or her today.

Every woman who is nominated is personally contacted by a member of our team and is invited into our community. An Essie Sister has the opportunity to come to 9 sessions that focus on healing from trauma and strengthening her voice as an advocate for herself, her family, and her community. We currently offer our 9-week sessions in the California Bay Area. If you or a woman you know is not local, we still want to hear from you! Childcare, transportation support, and meals provided at every session.

Every woman you nominate is notified that they were nominated by you and information you tell us in the nomination form is made available to the nominee. At Essie we believe personal stories are sacred. Therefore, please be advised that we may additionally share your nomination above anonymously with others to further the mission and development of our group for women with incarcerated loved ones. For example we could take a quote from the nomination above and use it in a campaign to end abusive practices that women and families encounter visiting their incarcerated loved ones. In doing so, to protect confidentiality, we will NEVER disclose names or personally identifiable information when we share nominations with others, unless we get the express permission of those named to do so. We believe breaking isolation and invisibility of women relies upon telling our stories. If you are interested in sharing your story publicly (in writing, on camera, or on the radio) and would like media training and help, please let us know that as well.
